The IIA Awards Building Awareness Champions for Outstanding Participation in May

LAKE MARY, Fla. (July 17, 2018)—Acknowledging the exceptional efforts in advocating for the value of the internal audit profession, The Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) presented more than 40 Affiliates and Chapters with the 2018 Building Awareness Champion Digital Award.

The Building Awareness Champion Digital Award celebrates Affiliates and Chapters that actively promote awareness of the profession during International Internal Audit Awareness Month, which takes place every May. Those who successfully complete the Building Awareness Champion program are given the digital award to display on their websites in recognition of their hard work.

The IIA designed a Building Awareness Toolkit featuring ideas, tips, easy-to-use tools and templates to help Chapters and Affiliates advocate for the profession. However, some of the champions’ passion for internal auditing spurred creative initiatives to further promote the value of the profession.

IIA-Botswana took an active approach to advocate for internal auditing by organizing an Awareness Walk. The event, which attracted nearly 150 participants, was featured in the Botswana Guardian. IIA-Tanzania increased awareness of the profession with live TV and radio appearances and public lectures. IIA-Philippines created a Shout It Out social media game in which members were encouraged to post photos with specific hashtags promoting the profession. To advocate for the future of the profession, IIA-Singapore hosted a career symposium attended by nearly 200 students.

Along with seminars and an opinion piece published in a national newspaper, IIA–Panama sent its “IIA May Flying Banner” around to members’ internal audit departments for display. IIA–Argentina Included among its events a sustainable development forum and a cross-training program for lawyers and internal auditors.

The IIA-Memphis Chapter created an Awareness Month Challenge for members, encouraging them to get creative in spreading the word about internal audit’s role in their organizations. The winning team incorporated The IIA’s Checkup Poster to show how its members support their healthcare organization. The IIA-Chicago Chapter hosted several events, including a lunch-and-learn on “Team Culture: Building Effective Relationships,” and IIA-Northwest Florida Chapter members held an ice cream social.

The IIA thanks everyone who participated to help make 2018’s International Internal Audit Awareness Month a rousing success.
