Internal Auditor Magazine Wins Top Honors

8 Awards Continue Winning Streak for IIA Publication

LAKE MARY, Fla. (July 28, 2020) — The Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA), the internal audit profession’s most widely recognized advocate, educator, and provider of standards, guidance, and certifications, announced today that its award-winning magazine for the profession, Internal Auditor, received eight awards for excellence in writing, editing, and design.

The magazine was presented with seven awards during the Florida Magazine Association’s 2020 Virtual Charlie Awards, including top “Charlie” awards for best feature writing and best overall writing in the category of trade/technical magazines.

In the category of best overall writing, the judge said, “Consistently high-quality editorial characterizes this bimonthly magazine. The tightly edited content – blessedly free of grammatical and punctuation errors – ranges from newsy quick takes in the Update department, to in-depth features quoting diverse sources, to the closing ‘In My Opinion’ column penned by a practitioner. Typically conversational in tone and comprehensive in nature, the writing always strives to show its relevance and value to readers.” Also recognized by judges for a Charlie Award was a piece by Russell Jackson in the magazine’s April 2019 issue, “Auditing the Smart City,” which explored the host of risks that must be addressed as municipal technologies become increasingly sophisticated.

Other awards included four silver honors for best writing/department for the Board Perspectives column, best design for both department and feature, and best overall magazine. A bronze award was received for best feature headlines.

The magazine’s entries were among the more than 560 entries received. The Charlie Awards are presented annually, normally at the joint conference of the Florida Magazine Association, Florida Press Association, Florida Society of News Editors, and Florida Newspaper and Marketing Executives. This year’s awards, however, were presented virtually due to COVID-19.

Earlier this month, the magazine received silver honors for general excellence in the 50,000-100,000 circulation category in Association Media & Publishing’s Excel Awards, which recognize excellence and leadership in nonprofit association media, publishing, marketing, and communications.
