IIA Taps Korn Ferry for Global Search of New Leader

Highly qualified executive sought to succeed longtime CEO Richard Chambers

LAKE MARY, Fla. (August 11, 2020) — The Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA), the internal audit profession’s most widely recognized advocate, educator, and provider of standards, guidance, and certifications, announced today that it is working exclusively with the global executive search firm Korn Ferry (NYSE: KFY) to find a successor to President and CEO Richard F. Chambers, who will step down effective March 31, 2021.

Korn Ferry, ranked by Forbes magazine as America’s best executive recruiter, plans to conduct a global search for qualified candidates based on criteria established by The IIA’s Search Committee. Selection is expected in early 2021, ensuring a smooth transition in leadership of the nearly 80-year-old organization.

“This is a critical time for The IIA, not only because of challenges brought by the COVID-19 pandemic, but also because of our history and the importance of ensuring momentum as a leader for the internal audit profession worldwide,” said Past IIA Global Chairman J. Michael Joyce Jr., CIA, CRMA, who is heading The IIA’s Search Committee. “We are conducting a global search for a strong leader with impeccable credentials and experience who can build upon our accomplishments and define and execute bold strategies to address a sometimes uncertain future.”

Chambers, CIA, QIAL, CGAP, CCSA, CRMA, was hired in 2009 and is the second-longest serving leader of The IIA since it was founded in 1941. He announced his plans to step down in July. Chambers is credited with leading the organization to record membership, enhanced certification and training, and an array of other initiatives elevating the internal audit profession. He will continue in his present role until March 31.
