OTTAWA, Ontario (Sept. 9, 2019) — The Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA), the internal audit profession’s most widely recognized advocate, educator, and provider of standards, guidance, and certifications, announces the appointment of Paul Forgues as Executive Director of IIA-Canada.

Forgues comes to IIA-Canada following a 12-year career with The Conference Board of Canada, where he was a member of its senior leadership team and most recently Director of Governance, Ethics, Sustainability, Compliance and Risk. He brings to IIA-Canada strong leadership skills and extensive professional expertise in the areas of integrated strategic program development and implementation, business development, corporate branding, reputation management, and stakeholder relations.

“Internal auditing plays an increasingly vital role in both the public and private sectors in Canada. Since we first established a chapter in Canada in 1944, The IIA has been committed to supporting our members and the internal auditing profession throughout the country,” said William J. Michalisin, CIA, IIA Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer. “Paul’s demonstrated leadership skills and his over 25 years of experience in public affairs, government relations, business development, fundraising, sales, marketing, and governance training will help to ensure IIA-Canada continues to deliver support to its members at the highest level.”

In his new role, Forgues will focus on achieving IIA-Canada’s strategic goals in the areas of training and certification, membership growth, and advocacy outreach and communications. On behalf of IIA-Canada’s 7,400 members, he also will speak and advocate for the internal auditing profession among key government organizations and public, not-for-profit, and private-sector stakeholders. Forgues will collaborate with IIA-Canada’s volunteer Board on short- and long-term goals and objectives to advance the internal auditing profession in Canada.

“The Canadian Board remains focused on IIA-Canada’s strategic plan, ‘Stronger Together,’ and its core purpose to lead the Canadian internal audit profession and advance its value,” said IIA-Canada Board Chair Richard Arthurs, CIA, QIAL, CRMA. “I am confident that Paul brings the right mix of strategic leadership, stakeholder knowledge, relationship depth, and understanding of the internal audit value proposition to support and grow awareness of both the internal audit profession and IIA membership within Canada.”

In 2018, Forgues was appointed a Director at The Conference Board of Canada, where he assumed overall responsibility as a Knowledge Centre Lead. He focused on governance, ethics, privacy, sustainability, compliance, and risk-management issues and was responsible for building the Conference Board’s research agenda and its strategic and operational plan. Over his career with The Conference Board of Canada, Paul played an instrumental role with many councils, delivering strong member engagement while looking for opportunities to enhance the overall member experience and demonstrating a unique talent for member recruitment. He was a strong people manager who focused on team engagement, connection and development. During his diverse career with The Conference Board of Canada, Paul also spent several years as Managing Director of The Directors College, where he worked closely with McMaster University staff, partners, program participants, and alumni to deliver governance training for Board Executives. Forgues received an Executive MBA from the John Molson School of Business, Concordia University, in 2007. He is fluent in English and French.
