COSO and IIA Announce ERM Certificate
Program demonstrates competency in applying ERM Framework
LAKE MARY, Fla. (May 24, 2018) — The Committee of Sponsoring Organizations of the Treadway Commission (COSO) and its sponsoring organizations, including The Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) , today announced the COSO Enterprise Risk Management Certificate.
Updated in September 2017, Enterprise Risk Management—Integrating with Strategy and Performance is one of the most widely recognized and applied risk management frameworks in the world. It is designed to help organizations implement enterprise risk management and connect it with strategy-setting and organizational performance.
The COSO ERM Certificate is geared toward professionals who play a risk management role in entities of any size, consultants who provide advisory services related to enterprise risk management, and board members who provide oversight of enterprise risk management.
With a combination of self-paced learning and a hands-on workshop, the program is followed by an online exam. Upon successful completion, candidates will receive an official COSO ERM Framework Certificate and Digital Badge that demonstrate their competency and indicate that participants can apply the integration of ERM with strategy and performance.
The course is offered only COSO’s five sponsoring organizations: The IIA, American Accounting Association (AAA), American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), Financial Executives International (FEI), and IMA (Institute of Management Accountants).
“The complexity of enterprise risk has changed, new risks have emerged, and managing it has become everyone’s responsibility,” Paul Sobel, COSO Chair, said in a COSO announcement also released today. “Participants will learn the concepts and principles of the newly updated ERM framework and be prepared to integrate the framework into their organization’s strategy-setting process to drive business performance.”
Key learning objectives include analyzing the value of ERM when setting and carrying out strategy and objectives; applying the integration of ERM with strategy and performance; and applying ERM concepts under many different circumstances.
“By offering a unique opportunity to develop expertise in enterprise risk management through a blend of self-paced learning and live classroom training, the Certificate is ideal for professionals who want to take control of their risk management strategy,” Sobel said.
