Chambers Discusses Corporate Governance Report on Bloomberg Radio
Richard F. Chambers, President and CEO of The Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA), participated in a live Bloomberg Radio broadcast Monday, Jan. 27, discussing, among other topics, the barely-passing grade U.S. corporate governance received in the recently released American Corporate Governance Index. The report was issued jointly by The IIA and the Neel Corporate Governance Center at the University of Tennessee.
In his discussion with hosts Lisa Abramowicz and Paul Sweeney, Chambers addressed how much the issues confronting major companies in the news can be attributed to a failure in corporate governance.
Chambers, CIA, QIAL, CGAP, CCSA, CRMA, provided additional insight into board responsibility, particularly as it relates to overly optimistic assessments of corporate culture, and internal audit’s role in governance.
Asked if there will be “more surprises like this,” Chambers responded, “I think it’s inevitable unless boards begin to anticipate risks that aren’t clearly on the radar.”
