CIA, CRMA Awards presented at International Conference

LAKE MARY, Fla. (November 5, 2020) — The Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) presented awards to three individuals for their high-scoring achievements in attaining certifications. The recipients received recognition during The IIA’s all-virtual International Conference, Nov. 2-4.

As the highest-scoring Certified Internal Auditor candidate in 2019, Michael Zimmer, from the Twin Cities (Minn.) Chapter, received the William S. Smith Gold Medal Award. Smith served as IIA chairman from 1966-67 and was a driving force behind the development of the CIA program.

Another award, the Dr. Glenn Sumners Award, recognizes the student who scored highest on the CIA exam in 2019. This year’s award was presented to Joshua Castille from the Dallas (Texas) Chapter.

A third award, for scoring highest on the Certification in Risk Management Assessment (CRMA) exam, was presented to Jennifer Woods from Portland, Ore.

The CIA was launched in 1974 to meet the growing need for internal auditors to demonstrate their knowledge and industry proficiency. Since its debut, demand for the CIA has grown exponentially, with 168,915 certifications issued worldwide as of Oct. 1. The CRMA designation demonstrates an ability to provide advice and assurance on risk management to audit committees and executive management. Since the CRMA debuted in 2013, 16,304 had added the designation as of Oct. 1.
