Foundation Releases Comprehensive Professional Guide and a Narrative on Culture<\/em><\/p>\n

(March 12, 2019) <\/strong>\u2014Two books published this month by the Internal Audit Foundation, the donor-supported arm of The Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA), offer new insights and best practices for professional development of internal audit executives looking to remain abreast of emerging trends and build an invaluable internal audit function for their organizations. <\/p>\n

In the seventh edition of the industry standard Sawyer\u2019s Internal Auditing:\u00a0Enhancing and Protecting Organizational Value<\/em><\/strong>, 10 authors and thought leaders in internal auditing tackle tough questions about the profession\u2019s future.<\/em>\u00a0The updated book demonstrates how to apply a business approach to build an internal audit function capable of increasing its value over time, encouraging audit executives to ask the right questions and think critically about the value and services to offer in their unique environment. As well, it provides examples of how to develop a risk-based audit plan and execute assurance and advisory engagements.<\/p>\n

In A Journey into Auditing Culture: A Story and Practical Guide<\/em><\/strong>, <\/em>which addresses the fascinating and challenging topic of organizational culture, authors Susan Jex and Eddie J. Best suggest approaches and a framework to identify, assess, and audit the risks and controls of a dynamic culture through the eyes of a fictional character, Alex. Throughout the book, Jex and Best infuse lessons learned from their experiences auditing culture and providing risk-based internal audit and transformation assurance services as part of the business risk services team for Grant Thornton, the world’s seventh-largest professional services network of independent accounting and consulting member firms. <\/p>\n
