(Jan. 25, 2019) \u2013 IIA President and CEO Richard Chambers and IIA 2018-19 Global Chairman of the Board Naohiro Mouri were interviewed by ET NOW, a major media outlet, during the 2019 IIA India National Conference &amp; Bombay Chapter Annual Conference held Jan. 21-22 in Mumbai, India. <\/p>\n<p>The conference theme \u2013 \u201cEmphasize the Basics. Elevate the Standards.\u201d \u2013 was a direct reflection of Mouri\u2019s chairman\u2019s year theme, which he presented at the conference. In his presentation, Chambers addressed \u201cInternal Audit in the Age of Disruption.\u201d The two were among an array of presenters and panelists during the conference.<\/p>\n<p>ET [Economic Times] NOW\u2019s Ajaya Sharma talked with Mouri and Chambers about needs and concerns of India\u2019s audit system when it comes to meeting global standards and being prepared for the changes technology brings.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think Indian companies are experiencing some of the same risks and challenges that companies around the world are feeling,\u201d Chambers said. \u201cClearly, in economies that are in a developing stage there are certain risks of potentially fraud or mismanagement that you may not see in some other countries. But I think that internal audit here is up to the challenge from what I\u2019ve seen in my travels.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOne of the things that I do think Indian auditors need to be mindful about is that there\u2019s a clear distinction between the accounting profession and the internal audit profession,\u201d Mouri said. \u201cI would urge Indian internal auditors to step forward, look at the Standards, and really look at the certifications, like the CIA [Certified Internal Auditor], to acquire and demonstrate their competency.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=rsDQe4r5_Y0\" target=\"_blank\">See the complete interview.<\/a><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Topic of discussion: Needs and concerns of the profession in India LAKE MARY, Fla.
