He was 93. <\/p>\n<p class=\"ms-rteElement-P\">Born in Chateauguay, Quebec, Dunbar was a member of the Toronto and, later, the Montreal chapters. He held many volunteer roles on the national and global levels, including serving three years as chairman of The IIA\u2019s former Board of Regents. During his tenure, he rejuvenated the Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) program, steering development of a marketing plan and assisting with the creation of a new logo. He also oversaw an update to the Common Body of Knowledge (CBOK). <\/p>\n<p class=\"ms-rteElement-P\">As Global Chairman, he advocated for internal auditing under the theme \u201cProfessionalism Requires Planning, Communication and Commitment.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"ms-rteElement-P\">Dunbar received two of the highest honors bestowed by The IIA: the Victor Z. Brink Award for Distinguished Service in 1984, and the Bradford Cadmus Memorial Award in 1994.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ms-rteElement-P\">\u201cIn The IIA\u2019s long history, David was one of the giants upon whose shoulders we all now stand, whose commitment serves to lift the profession ever higher,\u201d said IIA President and CEO Richard F. Chambers, CIA, QIAL, CGAP, CCSA, CRMA. \u201cDavid contributed so much to our organization and to the profession and, though he retired many years ago, his positive impact continues to be felt. He will be greatly missed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"ms-rteElement-P\">Dunbar retired as Director of Audit at Bell Canada in 1985 after a lifelong career with that country\u2019s largest telecommunications company.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ms-rteElement-P\">\u201cDavid\u2019s contribution to the internal audit profession cannot be overstated,\u201d said Jeffrey Erdman, Chairman, IIA Canada. \u201cIt was obvious to all who knew him that he loved his job as well as the many service opportunities he enjoyed at both the national and global levels. We send our heartfelt condolences to his family.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"ms-rteElement-P\">Visitation is scheduled for 5-8 p.m. Friday, 12 January at Ward\u2019s Funeral Home, 109 Reynolds Street, Oakville, Ontario. A memorial service at the funeral home chapel will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, 13 January.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ms-rteElement-P\">As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to Diabetes Canada or Alzheimer Society of Canada.
