Naohiro Mouri, Chief Auditor of AIG, Named Chairman<\/em><\/p>\n

DUBAI (9 May 2018) \u2014 The Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) announced today the election of Naohiro Mouri, CIA, CPA, Executive Vice President and Chief Auditor of American International Group (AIG), as chairman of the organization\u2019s 2018-19 Global Board of Directors. The election of Mouri and the Global Board<\/a> was held at The IIA\u2019s Annual Business Meeting following its 2018 International Conference<\/a> in Dubai.<\/p>\n

The IIA is the largest organization representing the interests of the profession and provides ethical and professional guidance, continuing education, and certifications to more than 190,000 members in more than 170 countries worldwide. Officers are elected for one-year terms; Institute Directors, North American Directors, and Directors-at-large serve one- or two-year terms.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am delighted about Naohiro Mouri\u2019s appointment as The IIA\u2019s new global chairman. He is a seasoned professional and an instrumental, longtime IIA volunteer who I know will bring strong direction and leadership to this role,\u201d said IIA President and CEO Richard Chambers, CIA, QIAL, CGAP, CCSA, CRMA. \u201cWith a distinguished career in internal auditing, he has made significant contributions to the profession and we are honored that he has taken on this important position.\u201d<\/p>\n

An advocate of the importance of fundamentals, Mouri set as his chairman\u2019s year theme: \u201cEmphasize the Basics. Elevate the Standards.\u201d His intent is to remind internal auditors that conformance to the Standards<\/em> is essential \u2013 not only to elevating the Standards<\/em> themselves, but also to raise the entire profession. His message is aimed at inspiring professionals at all levels as well as to prepare future generations of internal auditors.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am grateful for the opportunity to serve as The IIA\u2019s global chairman,\u201d Mouri said. \u201cBecause I truly love the profession, I want to stress the importance of going back to the very basics. That means understanding how important the Standards<\/em> are for becoming the trusted advisors we aspire to be. If each of us strives to elevate the Standards<\/em> in our daily practice, then together we can raise the profession to new heights.\u201d<\/p>\n

Before joining AIG, Mouri was a Statutory Executive Officer, Senior Vice President and Chief Auditor for MetLife Alico Insurance K.K. Japan. He also led the audit departments at J.P. Morgan Asia Pacific; Shinsei Bank; Morgan Stanley Japan; and Deutsche Bank Japan. He began his career at Arthur Andersen in Atlanta and Tokyo.<\/p>\n

With a career spanning more than 20 years, Mouri is well-regarded as a lecturer and author, and has held numerous board and volunteer leadership positions at The IIA. From 2001-06 he served as the first elected president of the Asian Confederation of Institutes of Internal Auditors (ACIIA). The ACIIA recognized him with its \u201cOutstanding Contribution in the Field of Internal Auditing\u201d honor in 2016.<\/p>\n
