Improving your Internal Audit Quality and Risk Management
Overview:
Quality – This aspect of the training explores the key areas for successful quality management within internal auditing (IA). The webinar examines not only the requirements outlined in the Global Internal Audit Standards but also progressive quality assurance (QA) practices. These include the development of an internal audit risk taxonomy and assessment, collaboration with second-line requirements, heat map reporting of weaknesses, data analytics, and continuous QA. A practical exploration will be provided to illustrate what effective QA looks like in internal auditing, both internally and through the management of the external quality assessment process required by the IIA standards.
Risk management – Internal audit functions carry the responsibility to actively manage their own risks, including those associated with audit activity and the operational aspects of running the function. This must be aligned with quality assessment activities while also addressing broader functional, reputational, and operational risks. Effective risk management practices include defining a clear risk appetite, conducting thorough risk control self-assessments, and establishing clear accountabilities for risk management. This training provides a practical framework and real-world examples to demonstrate the application of these practices.
